Great FOUR STAR review for The Hardchargers’ debut album – ‘Scarecrow’ . in the latest RnR Magazine. Trevor Hodgett writes:
“Blues now often seems to have become a subcategory of rock guitar, so how refreshing it is to hear a band like Northern Irish trio The HardChargers … Chris Todd’s singing is rather stylised, being declamatory and dramatic, and his phrasing is often eccentric, but his idiosyncrasies are strangely effective and his slide guitar playing is fierce.“
Trevor clearly likes blues trad and The Hardchargers are that: steeped in inspiration from the greats of the pre-electric blues – Blind Willie McTell, Blind Willie Johnson, Bukka White, Willie Brown – to the progenitors of electric blues such as Lightnin’ Hopkins, Howlin’ Wolf and Frankie Lee Simms and beyond to the late ‘60s and ‘70s blues rock boom championed by the likes of Savoy Brown and The Groundhogs.
