First ever reissue of 1992 album by one of music’s most esoteric and colourful characters: the late Kevin Ayers’ career namechecked just about everybody that mattered in music, polarising from Syd Barrett to Richard Branson.
Packed with fine songs in a fabulous return-to-form follow-up to 1988’s excellent ‘Falling Up’, his 14th album ‘Still Life With Guitar’ features sterling support from Mark Nevin and fellow Fairground Attraction-ers, former colleague in Kevin’s band The Whole World, Mike Oldfield, pedal steel guitarist BJ Cole, bassist Danny Thompson, Slapp Happy’s Anthony Moore, and Ayers’ late ‘first lieutenant ‘, guitar maestro Ollie Halsall.
Of equal quality and assurance as on ‘Falling Up’, this album likewise measures up to the material penned by this artist at the perceived heights of his career in the early-to-mid 1970s.
The original UK release of “Still Life …” was not as happy an affair as elsewhere, notably France where a strong promotional campaign was rewarded by extensive critical acclaim in music and national press. No production details or photos came with the album: but, this is put right here.
This Market Square reissue comes with revised and extensive notes, new pictures and artwork, and three previously unreleased tracks including a entirely new song written and performed by Ayers … and recorded in the back of a taxi driving around Palma, Mallorca!
